It doesn’t matter what else happens throughout the rest of the season — this Rhiner Cruz pitch to Kendrys Morales (and the reaction of everyone involved) is my favorite moment of 2013.
Update: The awesome @Chris_Sherwood has just informed me that this pitch is so far outside that it doesn’t even show up on Brooks Baseball’s Pitch F/X plot. This pitch is a ghost that plays by its own rules.
“Perhaps this is the start of something big in Houston and for the Astros, who have rebranded their image, changed leagues and managers and can only hope now to change their fortunes. For one night, it all worked.” — Brian McTaggart, MLB.com

Here are the Astros’ new logo and uniforms, as screencapped from today’s Astros Launch Party stream. I have to say I’m a bit sad they didn’t decide to go full shooting star, but I love the color scheme. I also love that they brought back Orbit because baseball needs more fuzzy mascots from distant planets riding around on carts that shoot sparks everywhere. That’s all I’m saying.
Best wishes to the Astros in 2013 and beyond with their brand new everything!
The Houston Astros in 2013 and Beyond: New Division, New Attire, New Adventures! (And We’re All Invited to The Final Countdown)
Oh, Astros, you had me at new logo and uniforms. Actually, no, you already had me at the pun in “Astros Launch Party.” In any case, this is really exciting, and the only way it could get any more exciting is if they have one of these at the party:
Because no party is complete without a bouncy house, especially when it’s an Astros-themed bouncy house. That is one of the few rules that I live by. Also, another name for a bouncy house is an Astrojump, so there you go. That’s two puns involving the Astros in one post. You’re welcome/I’m sorry.
But seriously, I can’t wait to see these new uniforms. In case you missed it way back in August, here’s an article from SportsLogos with some insights on what they might look like. Tune in to astros.com tomorrow evening if you’re interested in checking out the team’s new threads and more!
